So many mismatched old socks. Laundry day is not bad, only when you are trying to match the socks that’s when laundry day becomes a bit challenging. Do you have a file of old mismatched socks? I do. Different colors sizes and materials but mostly cotton.

When is the time to get rid of the file of old socks? After years of keeping them in one laundry basket, I finally decided to get rid of them. I threw the whole file in the garbage including the old hamper! After two hours, I realized I can use or repurposed the old socks. So, my journey to dumpster diving happened. At least, in my own garbage can. I retrieved the hamper full of old mismatched socks.

As I was sorting the old socks, I begin to see more use for the old socks. Plenty! But since I clean houses for a living, the first use in my mind is to repurpose the old socks for cleaning. In house cleaning, you use cleaning rags and paper towels. With old socks, I can replace the cleaning towels, rags, and paper towels. After each use, the old socks can be trashed.

Most of the old socks are cotton, good for dusting and for wiping countertops. And house cleaning involved a lot of dusting and wiping. As for dusting furniture, baseboards, and all other areas that had dust and dirt. The old socks are great to use. You can wear it like a glove while dusting. For cleaning the bathrooms, the countertop, and the faucet, the old socks absorbed the water well and shines the faucet nicely.

In the garage, you can use old socks to clean your garden tools. Another useful idea for old socks is to use them to clean your car interior or the tires. And, if you travel on vacation, you can use old socks to protect your shoes. There are plenty more uses for old socks. The good thing about is, it is repurposed. After each use, you will not feel guilty tossing it. Well, unless you want to save it to recycle. Some States have a recycled program that handles textile reuse and recycling of garments.

With that said, you decide how you like to reuse your old socks as long as it is useful, and will not harm anyone or the environment it is okay. The goal is to reuse for as many uses as you can. Mismatched old socks, reuse, repurpose and recycle.
