How To Clean The Mattress? One of the most essential and serious investments is the mattress. Why? Your bed affects your sleep and you’re overall health and well-being. Plus, you spend most of your time on your bed. So you may want to check and clean your mattress twice a year.

Deep cleaning the mattress every six months will reduce the accumulation of sweat, dead skin, dust mites, and allergies, and you will also save yourself from costly pest infestation. Besides, a fresh, clean bed will give you better sleep.

The good news is that cleaning the mattress is not as hard as you may think. Before, the manufacturer recommended you flip your mattress once every six months to even out the corners and avoid sagging. Now, not necessary. Most beds have a proper top and bottom.

Here are some simple cleaning tips and ideas to maintain your mattress.

  1. Have a complete cleaning supply; A good vacuum with HEPA Filter and brush attachment, clear dish soap, baking soda, microfiber cleaning cloth, and warm water.
  2. Remove the bedsheet, pillows, and mattress protector. Wash them in warm water. The bedsheet can be dry in the dryer on a low setting, but the mattress protector (read the label) should be air dry. Read the mattress label to see the bed manufacturer’s care instructions.
  3. Use the vacuum brush tool, and vacuum the bed paying attention to the crevices, folds, and corners.
  4. Check for stains. If the stain is visible, use the mixture of baking soda, water, clear dish soap, and water to remove the stains. Let air dry for about thirty minutes. Sprinkle dry baking soda generously on the entire top of the bed. Leave the baking soda for at least one hour. The baking soda will deodorize the mattress, reducing the odor.
  5. Vacuum again to remove the baking soda.
  6. Read the manufacturer’s care instructions if the bed needs to be flipped or not.
  7. Invest in a high-quality waterproof mattress protector or quality mattress pad.
  8. Like mattress protectors, good quality fitted sheet and pillow will help you get a good night’s sleep.

In the end, you have to listen to your body. Maintaining your mattress will only prolong the life of the bed, but after eight years or so, you may want to replace your bed with a new one.
