As we learned to get comfortable in the new normal, we begin to form new habits. Some of the things we used to do are no longer relevant or need improvement. Like with house cleaning, it is now necessary to add disinfectant to the process of regular cleaning.
In the new normal, cleaning alone will not do.

With cleaning only, dirt, grease, and organic materials are discarded. But germs, bacteria, and viruses linger. Further, cleaning does not kill or eliminate germs, bacteria, and viruses. It can only reduce the spread to some extent. Or if the cleaning is not done properly, the cleaning can spread germs, viruses, and bacteria.

One result of bad cleaning can make people sick. Like using a mop to clean the bathroom then repeating the same process in the kitchen, using the same mop and bucket of water. It is germs, bacteria, and viruses spreader.

In contrast, disinfecting will kill bacteria, germs, and viruses. But, like improper cleaning, there is also inadequate disinfecting. For instance, straight disinfecting using chemicals without cleaning or using proper precautions. That being the case, disinfecting becomes a health hazard.

Accordingly, combining the process of proper cleaning and correct disinfecting is more beneficial and safer. Given the new normal, proper cleaning using soap, water, microfiber cleaning cloth, and disinfectant solution will help reduce the spread of the virus, bacteria, and germs.

What is the correct process? First, depending on the size and material of the surface mix a few drops of dishwashing soap with warm water. Next, submerge the microfiber cleaning cloth into the soap and water solution, use it to wipe and remove the dirt, grease, and debris from the surface. Repeat the process using warm water only to rinse the surface. Follow up with a dry microfiber cleaning cloth to dry the area.

Finally, to disinfect. Once the surface is clean, free of grease, dirt, and debris, it is time to disinfect. Depending on the type of disinfectant the kill time varies. The user must follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the proper way of using the product. In particular, the household bleach. A common disinfectant solution. This product is readily available, inexpensive, and easy to use.

However, this product can be damaging if used without following the manufacturer’s instructions or the Center For Disease Control procedure.

Lastly, the combination of cleaning and disinfecting is crucial and timely at this time of year. With flu season around additional precautions will not hurt. With proper cleaning and disinfecting, the spread of germs, viruses, and bacteria is less. House Cleaning in the new normal is more work but necessary.
