House Bill 673 Georgia’s Hands-Free Cell Pone Law begins Sunday July 1, 2018. The new law authored by state Representative John Carson passed by the Georgia General Assembly and signed by Governor Nathan Deal prohibits drivers from texting, sending and receiving emails, posting on social media, watching and recording videos and browsing the internet.

Under the new law, it is illegal for drivers to have the phone in their hands when stop on traffic and stop sign. And drivers cannot use any other part of their body to support the phone. Exceptions are reporting traffic crash, medial emergency, fire, criminal activities and hazardous road conditions. First responders (law enforcement, fire and EMS) are exempted during actual official duties.
